School Updates

In the last month, students have had a number of opportunities to learn in unique ways. All of the students at GCA visited the Greenwood Community Theater for their production of “The Lion King”, several GCA students were in the cast and we are proud to support our Greenwood community. This month we also celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and Easter. At GCA we have worked hard to make these days fun and educational for our students. Our Kindergarten through second grade students spent St. Patrick’s Day hunting for a mischievous leprechaun that was making messes in the classrooms. While our older grades learned about Ireland and the traditions of St. Patrick’s Day.

GCA also celebrated Easter with a huge PTO community Eggstravaganza. The event consisted of a petting zoo, egg hunt, inflatables and cake decorating. We had an amazing turnout, and the entire GCA community had a chance to celebrate prior to Spring Break.

Celebrating student Success

In February we celebrated our students' success via our PBIS good behavior celebration. The celebration consisted of a dance party and glow activities. Students qualified for the celebration by earning Patriot Points in their classes for demonstrating positive behavior and citizenship. Each quarter our students who achieve their goal get to have a special celebration. We are proud of our Patriots!

Core Virtues Highlights

Teacher Spotlight (Teacher of the Year)

This month, we celebrate the remarkable efforts of Greenwood Charter Academy’s Teacher of the Month Heather Chander. Mrs.Heather Chandler is an experienced educator with a wide variety of teaching experience. She does an amazing job with her 3rd grade students. The care she has for her class is obvious, as she goes above and beyond to meet the needs of her students. Mrs. Chandler exemplifies quality teaching and her love of education is obvious in everything that she does. We are proud to call Mrs. Chandler GCA’s Teacher of the Month!

Community Corner:

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all our wonderful community partners! The Greenwood Community Theater offered special presentations of their performances of “The Lion King” for all of the students at GCA. These performances took place during the school day to allow our students to have the great experience of seeing a live performance. The Greenwood Community Theater does an amazing job and plans to continue to partner with GCA going forward.
